The meeting started with a modest number of members, but people kept coming in and added up to a good attendance. There was a few new faces too.
Models in various state of completion lined up for Show n' Tell.
Treasurer Gary Williams presented Rex McCoy a plaque in appreciation for his two years of service and outstanding leadership as president of our club.

Contest Coordinator Manny Gutsche reminded everyone of the upcoming Model Expo and of the importance of sponsorship, by both members and outside organizations. Manny contributed himself by offering the first sponsorship for this year's event.

San Diego Air and Space Museum's Tony Beres introduced guess speaker Gordon Permann, better known by club members as the person who collects the Model Expo entry fee at our June event.

Gordon is a writer, researcher,
interviewer, and long time volunteer at
the Air and Space Museum. He served in
the Navy as a rescue swimmer on H-2 and
H-3 helicopters and was Sailor of the Year
for 1988.
Gordon also served as an Intel Specialist for P-3s on Diego Garcia. His ships were the carriers Eisenhower and Midway, and frigates Kirk and Hepburn.

Since he retired, Gordon has interviewed pilots from WWII for researchers. In 2001, he held the only postwar reunion for Kommando Welter, the Luftwaffe nightfighter squadron that flew the Me 262 jet.
During the meeting, Gordon shared what he has learned about nightfighter Me 262s that hunted RAF Mosquitos in the last six months of the war. His anecdotes captivated club members and generated some interesting questions from the audience.

Thank you Gordon for the entertaining evening!

Show 'n Tell

Gary Williams brought his Trumpeter 1:48th scale KA-3B Skywarrior. Gary acquired a set of aftermarket decals for his bird.

Gary plans to have the refuelling basket in the retracted position, which requires some custom work.

This is a model that he's been wanting to build for a long time.

Richard Abraham has finished his Wingman 1:48th scale KFIR C10 in colors and markings of the Columbian Air Force.

Ethan Idenmill has just started work on a Emhar 1:72nd scale MK IV thank.

David Weeks is converting a Tamiya 1:48th scale Brewster F2A-2 Buffalo to a -3 version, using resin cockpit and engine and doing a lot of scratch-building to convert the air frame.

Colin Hodges brought his newly built T-38 Talon, a 1:48th scale Wolfpack model with aftermarket Wolfpack seats, and custom decals to represent the aircraft that his father flew out of Reece AFB, circa 1980-1981.

Jerry Jackson has started work on a Hasegawa 1:48th scale F-104 G that he plans to build out of the box except for an aftermarket cockpit.

Jerry will finish the aircraft in the kit's markings and colors, the Greece Air Force's Mount Olympus colorful version. However, Jerry has decided to paint the mountains and eagle graphics rather than using the decals that have yellowed.

First-time visitor Gilbert Barron brought a work-in-progress Fujimi 1:700th scale USS Lexington that is about half way done.

Gilbert also brought a Dragon 1:35th scale Pz.Kpfw.38T with a fuel tank in tow, the first armor vehicle that he has built in over 20 years. Gilbert says that the kit's instructions were rather vague, but that the end result is worth the frustration, even after 15 months of work.

Well done Gilbert, and welcome to the IPMS San Diego!

Our thanks to all who participated!
