The Meeting

President Rex McCoy gets
the meeting under way,
followed by Gary Williams
Treasurer report, and Joel
Hendricks Secretary report.

Three members of the Secret
Society of Model Builders talked
about the upcoming 2014
Winterfest, planned for January
25 2014 at the San Diego Air and
Space Museum Annex in El Cajon.

Check the Upcoming Events
page for more information.

The highlight of the evening was a photo presentation of
the Salt Lake City auto model contest by Dan King.

Two of the most memorable pictures:

A
representation of Ayrton Senna Formula 1 victory (left) at his home
Grand Prix in Brazil when the crowd submerged him and his car.

And a fire truck (right) entirely scratch-built, mainly made of metal.

From all the club members who were present at the meeting, thank you Dan!

Show 'n Tell

Members brought a nice collection of
models in various stages of construction.

Mark Knowlton presented the brand new HK Models 1/32 scale B-17 G Flying Fortress. At 39.5" of wing span and with over 500 pieces it is a huge model, beautifully crafted in and out.

Showing the growing popularity of 1/32 scale, David Weeks brought a brand new Tamiya F4U-1 Corsair, another high quality model.

Tony Dunn has built an Hasegawa 1/72 F-4 J Phantom (above) in the colors and markings of the CAG bird aboard the USS Ranger, Vietnam War era. The A-4E Skyhawk (top right) is an Accurate Miniatures model in 1/72 scale, also in the colors of a CAG bird, this one based on the USS F.D. Roosevelt.
Tony also brought a SH2 Sea Sprite and a 1970 USN Tow Tractor (bottom right) both from Fujimi in 1/72 scale. The H2 operated from a US Frigate but cross decked to the USS Saratoga where the tow tractor belongs.

Richard Abraham has built this 1/48 scale
Academy Hawker Hunter FGA.9, finished
in Kenya Air Force colors and markings,
circa 1975. This was Richard's first attempt
at home-made decals.

Jerry Jackson brought the Bf-109 (above left)
that made third place in its category at the
IPMS Nationals earlier in the month.

Jerry also
completed another Bf-109, a G6 in
1/72 scale from Academy, built out-of-the-box
with Eduard interior components.

Rex McCoy brought two Coastal Command
aircraft, a shipping attack de Havilland
Mosquito and an Armstrong Whitworth
Whitley ASW patrol craft with radar.

Rex has been experimenting with "spinning
prop" effects to a convincing result, as seen
on these two aircraft.

Ethan Idenmill has started work on a 1/1600
scale Space Frigate from Nitto.

So far, Ethan has replaced the guns with brass
tubing.

Barry Rishel is working on a 1/350 scale USS
Missouri from Lifelike. Barry says that the kit
is a "comedy of errors", but he's having a lot
of fun.

Daniel Covey and Tony Bunch provided extra
parts, for which Barry is very thankful.

Mike Potter is building 3 models simultaneously, all 1/700 scale Dragon models. One is of minesweeper, while the other two will be of the Benson-Gleaves Class destroyer USS Bailey, on which the grandfather of Mike's son-in-law served.

David Nielsen is working on "Soldiers at Rest", two resin figures from Jaguar Models in 1/35 scale. Minor modifications include a replacement rifle for the seated figure, a replacement MP-40 for the standing figure, and replacement ammo pouches for both. The set is almost ready for primer.

Our thanks to all who participated!
