JANUARY 2013 MEETING REPORT

The IPMS San Diego met on January 25 at the Girl Scout Center, located 1231 Upas St. in San Diego.

The meeting saw the first quarterly contest of the year and a Corsair presentation by David Weeks. Although a good number of models were brought for Show 'n Tell, time didn't allow for any discussion.

Meeting Matters

Matt Levesque (left), Vice-President of the IPMS Denver, visited our meeting, and planned to attend Winterfest III scheduled to happen the day after the meeting at the San Diego Air and Space Museum Annex at the Gillespie Field in El Cajon, as Daniel Covey (right), the event's main organizer, reminded the club members.

President Rex McCoy presented former President Tony Bunch with a print of "Star of India in the fog", a painting by Richard Derossett.
David Weeks presented the information that he has gathered from his extensive research to make the most accurate F-4 U Corsair model. This is an extremely elaborate presentation that compares details that vary from model to model. Because of the variety of subtle designs and the limited number of available replacement parts, David's assessment of restoration works is that museum Corsairs might have a mix of parts that makes them inaccurate for any particular version of the aircraft.

Show 'n Tell

Joel Hendricks' "Dona" has now some colors, following painting guidance from Tim Latham. Joel says that he's still a long way to be done, and that there's still a lot of details to be painted.

Jerry Jackson brought a 1/72 scale DML model of a HE 219 A-7, with the addition of a Cooper detail set.

Jerry also brought a 1/48 scale model, a BF-109 F-4 by Airfix, built out of the box.

Dany Galgani brought his finished Fouga CM-170 Magister, a 1/72 scale Airfix model in the colors of the French Air Force aerobatic team "Patrouille de France".

Marty Horvath started work on a 1/72 scale F-105 D by Trumpeter.

Jerry Brunson has resumed work on his 1/32 scale Trumpeter A-7 E Corsair II, to which he added Aires cockpit and wheel wells and a Zacto Model's seamless intake, canopy and nose. Jerry sanded down the tail raised detail (red outline below left) which is inaccurate for the A-7 E, and correctly re-scribed the panel lines.

Rex McCoy is working on a 1/72 scale PBI-H by Hobby Craft, sporting Navy colors applied with acrylic paints.

Barry Righel bought a 1/350 scale USS New York by Gallery from Discount Hobby Warehouse.

Ethan Idenmill has started work on a 1/700 scale Dragon model of the USS Oliver Hazard Perry frigate.

Aaron Lovejoy is working on three figures from various manufacturers, a 54mm Avatar of Khaine (above left), a 28mm Kingdom Death Preacher Pinup (above) and a 28mm Reaper Sorcerer (left).

Fred Fimbres is working on a 1/12 scale Kawasaki K2-1000 Ltd, an old Revell kit.
