DECEMBER 2012 MEETING REPORT

The IPMS San Diego met on December 21 at the Girl Scout Center, located 1231 Upas St. in San Diego.

As it is the tradition, this last meeting of the year was our Christmas pizza party, which saw a great turnout and a substantial number of models for Show 'n Tell.

There were 22 pizzas and plenty of other goodies for everyone to enjoy, and enjoy they did as left overs were less than measurable.

Models brought for Show n' Tell

Marion Canizaro brought his finished 2001 Ford Escort RS Rally, a 1/24 scale model by Tamiya. Marion has built the model out of the box and used the experience mainly to work on his paint technics.

Jerry Jackson finished the model that he had brought to last month's meeting,
a 1/48 scale Airfix BF 109 F4B that he had started years ago.
Jerry has built the aircraft out of the box, except for the panel lines that he scribed.

Jerry also finished another stalled project, a 1/48 P-40 by Otaki, with rebuilt interior and scratch-built instrument panel and seat.

Fred Fimbres brought a BF-109 too, this one a 1/72 scale Hasegawa model, along with a 1/72 Horten HO-229 by Airfix, both built out of the box.
Fred also brought a Letov LF-107 Lunak, a 1/48 scale Conrad model of the Check glider. Although the kit has an excellent fit, the yellow paint was a tough exercise.

Rex McCoy has built a 1/48 scale Tamiya A-1 H Skyraider in the USS Midway markings for San Diego loyalty. Rex said that the model has a flawless fit, and that he used a music wire to make the aerial antenna.
Jose Gonzalez brought a 1/72 scale Lancaster Mk I, an Airfix model built out of the box in the colors of the Argentine Air Force.

Jerry Brunson has finished the 1/48 scale Mirage F1 that he started in September. Jerry added aftermarket cockpit, jet exhaust, wheel wells, tires and struts to the Italeri kit, all of that requiring extensive cutting, filling, sanding and scribing, which in the end made for a beautiful aircraft.
Ethan Idenmill finished his 1/700 scale IJN sub-chasers and US Gato submarine, all from Skywave with Tom's Modelworks photo-etch. Ethan used Woodland Scenics to create a realistic water diorama (right) with the sub in the water and the sub-chaser above it. Although the sub looks quite right in the water, the surface has dipped badly after a few days of curing, and the sub-chaser looks like it's caught in a trough between two waves. Ethan reckons that the piece makes a nice paper weight!

Another model from Jose Gonzalez, a 1/700 scale Type 42 Destroyer from Dragon, painted in the colors of the Argentine Navy, with photo-etched and scratch-made sprue parts.
David Nielsen is working on a Kharkov City Patrol, a 1/35 scale Jaguar kit that comes with two resin figures and a base. Except for sculpting the tunic collar of one figure, David is building the piece out of the box, with Vallejo acrylics and artist oils.

Having not build a model for the past two months, Gary Williams is planning to get back into the modeling mood that saw him produce some 25 models over a two year span.

Our thanks to all who participated!
