First Annual Dinner & A Model

The first annual 'Dinner & A Model' turned out to be a great success with thanks going out to many people within San Diego IPMS organization.  We met at the Good Egg Restaurant in Kearny Mesa for dinner, a model contest and awards.  The primary motivation for this type of forum was to give the families of the modelers a chance to see what we are all about.  We had quite a nice turnout, forty-one people showed up and thirty-three models were entered by 18 different modelers!  We haven't seen that sort of participation for a quarterly contest in some time.  With the contest theme being 'Humor In Modeling', there were several very clever and creative entries along with the usual highly researched and detailed fair.

Dinner was fantastic.  Adults had their choice of beef or chicken along with a baked potato, vegetables, and a salad.  Burgers and fries were a big hit with the Juniors.  A special thanks was given to the 'Modeler Widows'.  Each spouse was presented with a plant to take home ( a poor replacement for a husband) and a certificate of thanks.

IPMS San Diego also took this opportunity to honor some of its active members.

Alvin Friedman was given a special award for his commitment to IPMS San Diego.  Whenever volunteers are needed Alvin is first in line.  He was also the coordinator for this wonderful event.

Dan Covey was given an award for stepping up and volunteering as our contest coordinator and head judge.  Dan is also the editor and primary contributor to our newsletter.

Gary Williams was once again honored for his commitment and unyielding dedication to IPMS San Diego for more years than he cares to remember.  We just can't say enough nice things about Gary.
