February 2015

This month's meeting saw more preparation for our June Model Expo, including a plan to train any member who would like to be a judge at the event. Starting with the March meeting, with help from experienced judges Lead Judge Jerry Jackson will show any volunteer what makes the difference between a good model and a better one.

Also during the meeting a couple of motions were passed to sponsor two other IPMS chapters that regularly support our show.

A good number of models were brought for Show 'n Tell. Alberto Ramos (below) started the presentation with his '65 Ford Mustang, an AMT kit in 1:16th scale with a Cobra engine.

Manny Gutsche has now attached the wings of his Italeri 1:48th scale U2 to the fuselage. Slow progress, but the finish of the aircraft should be flawless.

Richard Abraham is working on a Strikemaster, a 1:48th scale Fly model that Richard plans to finish in colors and markings of Botswana Air Force.

Robert Curtin is building two LSTs from Skywave in 1:700th scale that will be part of a diorama depicting a small sliver of action on June 7, 1944 on the Normandy coast.

Jerry Jackson brought a 1:72nd scale Elefant (above) and a Dornier DO335 (right) in the same scale. Jerry plans to take both models to ValleyCon on the Sunday after this meeting.
Gilbert Barron is working on a 1:35th scale Italeri Tiger 1 tank.
And Ethan Idenmill decided to add two human figures and a horse to his 1:72nd scale Dragon T-34/85 to help make it more of a story, although the quality of the ESCI figures is rather poor.

March 1: ValleyCon

Unlike the preceding years, ValleyCon was not held at the Pasadena Convention center. Instead, it was hosted at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley. Fear that it wouldn't attract a lot of modelers because no vendors were allowed in the museum was unfounded as the event actually turned out to be a great success, with a fabulous selection of models. Up Coming Events

Our March meeting will feature the first of possibly three judge training sessions ahead of our 2015 San Diego Model Expo on June 6. The goal of these sessions is to get our members to actively participate in our yearly event and at the same time to make them better model builders by teaching them what judges look for in models.

For judging practice, please bring a complete model, old or new, that you can also use in our Show 'n Tell if you so desire.

There will be a short Model Expo Planning meeting at 6:30PM, with our regular meeting starting at 7:00PM.
April 24, 2015
Our April meeting will feature our second Quarterly Contest of the year. Bring your latest model to enter the competition.

We will continue judge training, ahead of our yearly Model Expo. Completed models will be again great material for this session.
June 6, 2015
Our tenth San Diego Model Expo will be held, as it has become a tradition, at the Air & Space Museum Annex, Gillespie Field located 335 Kenney Street in El Cajon, CA. Click here for all information and forms.
